Community Action:MK has been invited by Milton Keynes Council to set up and run a year long pilot Community Car Scheme project in certain areas in Milton Keynes, with the aid of South Northants Volunteer Bureau from April 2015. This work has also been supported by funding from MK Community Foundation.
The aim of the Community Car Scheme is to provide safe and reliable transportation for vulnerable members of the community, in order to help them access a range of medical services or social care visits. It will initially be working with:
- Simpson and Ashlands Parish Council,
- Walton Community Council,
- Old Woughton Parish Council,
- Campbell Park Parish Council
- Bletchley & Fenny Stratford Town Council.
If the scheme is successful this year then CA:MK will be planning to extend it to other areas in Milton Keynes next year. If you require any further information please contact Tracy Whitmore – Community Car Scheme Co-ordinator or Laura Jeffrey – Community Car Service Administrator on 01908 670309 or 01908 661623 or email them at ccsmk@communityactionmk.org
Volunteer Drivers Wanted!
Do you have some free time?
Are you a car owner and like driving?
Would you like to help people in your local area by becoming a volunteer car driver?
Do you live in or around the following areas, Simpson, Ashland, Walton Park, Walnut Tree, Wavendon Gate, Woolstone, Woughton on the Green, Passmore, Springfield, Fishermead, and Oldbrook?
We are looking for people willing to give their time to transport the elderly and disabled to a range of medical appointments and social care activities. These are generally in Milton Keynes and local area, but can occasionally be to Bedford, Northampton, Aylesbury, and Oxford.
You do not have to travel to areas you are not familiar with and we only ask you to volunteer as and when you are available and willing; this can be anything from a few hours a week to all week depending on your preferences and availability. You will need your own car, however, all mileage costs are reimbursed at the current HMRC rate.
You will need to inform your insurance company that you are volunteering and insurance companies do not impose a financial penalty for this.
For more information please don’t hesitate to get in touch with either Tracy Whitmore or Laura Jeffery on 01908 670309 or email ccsmk@communityactionmk.org.
Passengers Wanted!
Do you struggle to get to doctor, dental, hospital or other essential appointments?
Do you live in the following areas, Simpson, Ashland, Walton Park, Walnut Tree, Wavendon Gate, Woolstone, Woughton on the Green, Passmore, Springfield, Fishermead, and Oldbrook?
Then this might be the scheme for you!
The Community Car Scheme matches up passengers who struggle to use local public transport with volunteer drivers who will take them to either hospital or Social Care activities, with a friendly administrator ‘linking’ drivers and passengers. We will provide local, friendly volunteer car drivers to provide a door-to-door transport service for people who are unable to get to medical and social care appointments such as:
- Doctors
- Dentists
- Opticians
- Hospitals
- Chiropodists
- Day Centres
We will also take people to visit relatives who are in hospital or residential care. There is an initial year membership and then mileage costs payable to the driver.
If you would like to find out more – please ring Laura Jeffery or Tracy Whitmore on 01908 670309 or email ccsmk@communityactionmk.org.
