Over the Summer, Create gave young carers in Milton Keynes the opportunity to explore the world of animation and try out a range of animation techniques, spanning from the Victorian era, all the way up to the present day. With the help of Create’s professional artist, they got to grips with stop-motion techniques, digital editing and experimented with thaumatropes and flip-books.

The young carers then collaborated to create short animated films inspired by a renovated redway (a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians) in Milton Keynes.

Young carers often say they feel lonely or socially isolated from their peers because of their responsibilities at home. During the Summer, when school is out, many young carers have even fewer opportunities to interact with people their age and become more insular and closed-off. This project allowed them to forget their responsibilities, make new friends, and most importantly, to have some fun!
