What makes a great city?  Wednesday 16th December, 7.00pm, Transport Systems Catapult, at The Pinnacle, 170 Midsummer Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes

As you may have heard, Milton Keynes Council has recently initiated an exciting new project, the MK Futures 2050 Commission, to explore potential long-term futures for Milton Keynes as it continues to grow as a place and economy of increasing significance. The Commission will make recommendations to the Council about what this might mean for the development of policy.

The process was initiated by a Council Motion from the three political group leaders to the Full Council meeting of 16th September 2015, supported by the Terms of Reference for the Commission.

We have taken the opportunity to appoint a group of Commissioners to provide wider perspectives, knowledge and external challenge, including insights from national and international benchmark cities.  You can read more about the Commissioners and the work they will be doing on our webpage.

As part of the project, we are initiating a programme of engagement with residents, communities and interest groups from Milton Keynes and beyond, to make sure everyone has the opportunity to have their voices heard in the debate.

The first event in this programme is an evening of presentations and debate around the topic “What makes a great city?”, which is taking place on Wednesday 16th December 2015, at 7.00pm at the Transport Systems Catapult, in The Pinnacle, 170 Midsummer Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes, MK9 1BP.

We have invited several groups and individuals to talk about what they think makes a great city, and what they think makes Milton Keynes a great place to live, and what would make it even better.  We hope that you will come along to hear their views and contribute your own as part of the discussion that will take place afterwards.  Members of the MK Futures 2050 Commission will also be attending to hear what is being said, and the points discussed will feed into their work

If you would like to attend the event on Wednesday 16th December, please register your interest by email toMKFutures@milton-keynes.gov.uk or call us on 01908 252225.

There will be lots more opportunities to get involved in the New Year, with public exhibitions, workshops, talks and debates and use of social media to encourage “virtual” debates.  As these events and opportunities are organised, we will publish and communicate information about them and how to get involved.

You can already tell us your thoughts on the subject of “What makes a great city?” and “What could make Milton Keynes greater?” through Twitter (@FuturesMK2050) or by email to MKFutures@milton-keynes.gov.uk.

Our aim is that the MK Futures 2050 Commission will be an engaging that will stimulate a wide range of viewpoints and discussions about the future of Milton Keynes.  We look forward to your involvement in the process as we move forward.
