The Milton Keynes Safety Centre, also known as ‘Hazard Alley’, was the first of the purpose-built interactive education safety centres for children and now networks with similar Centres which have since been set up across the UK.
Opened in 1994 by Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Gloucester, the Centre quickly established itself as a ‘must do’ for schools seeking innovative new ways to introduce children to personal safety. It welcomes around 20,000 children each year and is continually innovating and enhancing its offer to schools such as the introduction of a new and very popular cyber bullying programme. The Centre is entirely self financing and has an annual turnover of around £300k.
This is a unique opportunity to work in an exciting environment, where you will work with a team of 7 experienced paid staff and a highly motivated and dependable pool of 50 volunteers. You will be responsible for all aspects of running and developing the centre including the day to day management, ensuring operations run smoothly and visitors have a great educational experience.
Working with potential sponsors and other external partners you will work to promote the Safety Centre and secure future funding and sponsorship opportunities for ongoing development of the Centre.
You will report to the board of trustees, and with them, develop plans and strategies for the future.
Suitable candidates will be hands on, organised and used to a varied role where priorities are spread across daily operations and strategy.
You will have a strong understanding or experience of working with partners in the private and public sectors, particularly around education or the emergency services. The individual will need to be highly motivated, with financial, organisational, and communication/team building skills.
