MK:Smart project holds another successful networking event, bringing together people of Milton Keynes to think about what makes a ‘smart city’, plus revealing the photos that show this best.

EventThe bustling networking event last Friday.

On 5th February Community Action: MK and the Open University hosted a bustling networking event at the Gallery 200 at MK College. With 84 attendees, the event saw people from across MK coming together to understand how to be involved in making Milton Keynes a ‘Smart City’.

The Our MK team talked about £5,000 funding opportunities for community run projects, and Franzi Florack shared her experiences of running her own project with support from Our MK. To find out more MP Mark Lancaster also spoke at the event referring to our city motto “By knowledge, design and understanding”. He said ”When you look at this project you realise that they are principles which this project are continuing to follow”.

The event also announced the winners of the MK:Smart Photography Competition, where photographs entered represented the brief ‘What is your ‘Smart City’?’. The Judge’s Winner was Simon Beckett with his image named “The Future is Solar!” and the Online winner, judged by more than 1,300 votes was Paul Bond with his photo called “Take action, think smart, one future, our future….” that received 532 votes. And finally the event winner was James Rayner with the Photo “Cedar Barn Passivhaus”.

  1. Very interesting – I voted in the photo contest which was a thought-provoking exercise. How is the invitation list for participating in discussions pulled together? I ask because I represent various organisations in MK with an interest in its future and would have welcomed a chance to attend the event (or send a representative).

    1. Thanks for getting involved so far. We sent out invitations to our event to our growing list of MK:Smart subscribers. We send out regular email updates about the project and opportunities related to smart cities. You can sign up here: More information about Our MK is also all on the website Thanks Rebecca and the team.
