4 ARTISTS for community engagement activities with On The Verge

 

‘UNDERPASSES – CONNECTING PEOPLE, CONNECTING PLACES’

Fixed Fee: £640 (Inclusive) on freelance basis

Fixed Rate: £20/hour x 32 hours (4 days)

Fixed Term Contract: April 2016 – November 2016

(4 half day sessions per artist/per estate and 4 at CMK Library. Days/hours to be agreed)

On the Verge (OTV) is a CIC, which is delivering the ‘Underpasses – connecting people, connecting places’ project, to explore and celebrate Milton Keynes’ urban design history as part of the MK50 celebration in 2017. It is the second phase of long-term independent public art project, the ‘Gateways Project’, which focuses on the four estates around the central area of Milton Keynes: Conniburrow, Fishermead, Oldbrook and Downs Barn.

On The Verge is recruiting 4 x Artists for the Underpasses project, to deliver drawing based and heritage inspired community engagement activities. Artists and their assistant volunteer will be introduced to different aspects of the local heritage, which will help them to design the workshop sessions. The work produced during sessions will be participating in the Big Draw and the Be Creative – Family Arts Festival during October 2016.

OTV is looking to recruit artists who have good local knowledge, are flexible, have experience of and enjoy working with people to deliver a programme of drawing based and heritage inspired activities with schools, local groups and families on the 4 estates participating. The artist led engagement programme will give local residents the opportunities to learn new skills, work with an artist, develop their creativity and explore heritage ideas for the  final artwork for the underpasses connecting their estates.

Oral Historian / Oral History Specialist with On The Verge

 

‘UNDERPASSES – CONNECTING PEOPLE, CONNECTING PLACES’ project

Location: Milton Keynes

On the Verge require an Oral Historian / Oral History specialist to undertake 2 community engagement events called iRemember. The Oral Historian will be responsible for capturing residents’ reminiscences and photos/stories from the four estates from 5 decades history of Milton Keynes. The work will entail preparing interview questions, recording the backgrounds of these individuals to ensure their unique stories are recorded, and includes transcription and editing of a selection. The reminiscences will form part of the research information, which will be used to inform other project outputs. The Oral History specialist will provide a training session for 8-10 volunteers to help in reminiscence collection at these events.

The OH will also deliver 6 half hour school based iRemember reminiscence talks in primary schools on the 4 estates explaining the value of oral history to future generations, and how it is done, bringing in interviewees from the iRemember events to tell their story. 

The successful candidate will ideally be Oral History Society accredited with a track record of successful oral history projects and recent experience in collecting oral histories. They will have experience of editing oral histories to a professional standard experience of working with volunteers in oral history collection along with a meticulous approach to oral history collection, transcription, recording and excellent communication skills.

Project Evaluator with On The Verge

Fixed term contract: April 2016 – ending Feb 2017

On The Verge is recruiting a Project Evaluator for the Underpasses project.

  • The Evaluator should have thorough experience of evaluating heritage inspired public art projects as demonstrated by work completed to date.
  • Knowledge and application of evaluation methodologies as demonstrated through experience of previous similar arts / heritage evaluation contracts.
  • Excellent report writing, organisational and written communication skills.
  • Availability and ability to engage with the Underpasses project programme in Milton Keynes.
  • Experience working with and assessing public art work
  • Excellent time management and budget management as demonstrated through a track record of successfully delivering projects/contracts on-time and on budget.

Project outputs include commissioning artwork and interpretation panels for 3 underpasses, a programme of heritage inspired creative community engagement and school sessions, two children’s publications on Milton Keynes history, a Heritage trail leaflet and App, and exhibition of the research information.

Play Services Manager with Milton Keynes Play Association (MKPA)

 

Salary: £20,000 to £28,000 (depending on experience and qualifications); at least level 3 play qualification

Terms: 37.5 hours per week

Location: Kiln Farm, Milton Keynes

If you are energetic and committed to delivering outstanding play opportunities to school-age children and passionate about continuous improvement to play services, come and join MKPA team.

The post holder will lead on developing, marketing and delivering play in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area, liaising and negotiating as required with schools and parish councils. This will involve establishing playschemes during most school holidays and also working with others to improve children’s experience of play within family, school and neighbourhood settings and to secure external funding where necessary.

Previous experience of managing successful play work and of staff management is essential.

The successful candidate will have business development and presentation skills, ability to write reports and analyse data, and experience of managing both play workers and temporary play session staff.

The contract is for 37.5 hours per week, including working flexible hours which will often involve weekends, late evenings and early mornings.

The successful candidate will need to be a team player with strong management, leadership, IT and communication skills. He/she must be able to maintain professional and productive relationships with clients and partners.

BucksVision is recruiting for an ambitious Volunteer Supervisor based across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.

BucksVision is a charity supporting visually impaired people (VIP), blind and partially sighted, mainly in Buckinghamshire. It runs over 20 clubs and activity groups across the county for its visually impaired users, and has a network of trained volunteers providing advice and support within hospital eye clinics in Buckinghamshire.

As a Volunteer Supervisor you will be responsible for coordinating volunteer delivered services across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. You will work alongside BucksVision’s Community Engagement Coordinator & Volunteer Manager to ensure that their services are effective.

Specifically, this will include:

  • Overseeing the delivery of services such as befriending and home visiting in the local area;
  • Supervising volunteers and ensuring that they are working to a high standard;
  • Monitoring and reporting when required, helping ensure effective delivery of the service.

Cycle Mechanic (FT or PT) – Social Enterprise Worker with MK Christian Foundation

Cycle Saviours is a new social enterprise whose mission is to save unwanted bikes, save the environment and help get people on their bikes. In addition to their work recycling, repairing and servicing bikes they have recently been awarded a large contract to maintain bikes for a new Milton Keynes’ public bike rental scheme and are also expanding their community engagement services to encourage more people to get on their bikes.

You will be an enterprising, environmentally committed, cycling enthusiast with high level cycle mechanic skills who is keen to share those skills with young people and others in their community.

There are both permanent full and part-time posts available. For this post you will need an enhanced DBS check.

The purpose of this post is to work with and train young people on their pre-apprenticeship programme to engage with the Cycle Saviours enterprise to:

  • Source, refurbish and sell unwanted bikes and bike spares and repair and service customer bikes
  • Develop community activities that promote access to cycling
  • Service, repair and relocate rental bikes (involves driving a small van)

Key requirements

You will:

  • Be an enterprising, cycling enthusiast with good cycle maintenance skills
  • Ideally hold a cycle maintenance qualification
  • Have an ability to, and experience of, working with young people
  • A passion for cycling and the environment
  • Have strong administrative skills
  • Qualifications at level 2 or above in English and Maths
