Last Thursday 17th November representatives from the business, public and voluntary sector came together to recognise the impact of Community Action: MK’s Employee Volunteering programme. This event, hosted by Metro Bank was to thank the businesses that have taken part in the programme this year and celebrate the help that has been given to voluntary and community groups across Milton Keynes.
So far Community Action: MK have placed 288 employee volunteers from 8 businesses which equates to 1,747 hours of volunteering; with a further 34 volunteers that are due to complete projects in November. Volunteers have worked to support the sustainability of 19 groups including St. Mungo’s, Foodbank, Pepper Hill and Stanton Schools, National Trust Stowe and the Urb Farm. The volunteers came from Argos, Dentons UKMEA LLP, Hewitsons LLP, Hillier Hopkins LLP, Lista, National House Building Council, Tech Mahindra and The Woburn Hotel.
Tim Marren, CEO, Community Action: MK said:
‘Today is our opportunity to celebrate the work of all the businesses who have partnered with us this year. Our aim is to help voluntary and community organisations across Milton Keynes gain access to additional advice and practical support that they cannot access themselves. There is increasing political and public focus on localism and people being empowered to make a personal difference in their communities. Volunteering is one way in which businesses can start to build real relationships and help to transform the communities they live and work in.’
Community Action: MK asked the businesses to pledge their time to help put up Christmas decorations in two of St. Mungo’s hostels. This give a festive feel to the communal areas for the young homeless people. The activity will take place on 8th December and up to 24 volunteers are needed to make this a success.
