Community Action: MK provides advice and support to voluntary and community groups in Milton Keynes and brokers volunteering opportunities for individuals and businesses.  It also supports individuals to have a voice in their community and provides a strategic voice for the local voluntary sector.

The role of the Development and Funding Officer, as part of the Support, Development and Volunteering team, is to provide individuals, as well as voluntary and community groups, with support throughout the life of their group. Our Support, Development and Volunteering team works with our Community Development Team who work in communities with individuals to identify their ideas, interests and issues and connect them with others in their community to establish groups and networks for collective action.

These groups and networks require volunteers to help them set up, flourish and grow, and the support, development and volunteering team provide a range of information, advice and guidance to help these groups run legally, be financially competent, and able to plan and deliver for the future.

These services are delivered through outreach events in communities across Milton Keynes, through 1:1 group visits, telephone enquiries, referrals to other groups in the sector and development of training and spotlight events on specific themes relevant to the sector.

This role is funded by section 106 money which is paid to Milton Keynes Council by developers for each new house completed in MK. While our work is most commonly in either long established communities in MK which have signs of deprivation or in in brand new communities, this current role presents an unusual opportunity to work in some of the established communities within MK where new housing has been added.

A range of personal and professional training and development is available. The individual needs of employees are identified through regular supervision and appraisal.
