Do something good today ……. Volunteer!

Community Action: MK is the volunteering hub for Milton Keynes. We help local organisations and local people connect with each other to get things done. This week we are focusing on one particular organisation – Over The Wall (OTW).

Over The Wall (OTW) provides free of charge residential activity camps for children and teenagers living with serious health challenges.  They offer them and their families a week of experiences that are memorable, fun, physically safe and medically sound. All OTW camps are residential over a range of 3 – 5 nights. Volunteers are required to attend up to 2 nights before the Campers arrive for training, team building and preparation.  The camps are held at locations in Scotland, the Midlands and the South of England.

They need a superb group of volunteers for the following roles to make the magic happen!

Activity Leaders with specific interests and/or skills in music, drama, games, sports, arts and crafts to help lead a specific activity at camp.

Teammates support Campers throughout their time at Camp, building fantastic 1:1 relationships whilst encouraging, inspiring and empowering Campers as they complete Camp activities.

The role of the Camp Recorder is to capture the fun of Camp and the achievements of all the Campers.

For those trained and experienced in safeguarding, this role helps create the safest possible environment for the Campers.

It is not essential to have had experience working with children and teenagers; they are looking for volunteers that are energetic and enthusiastic in their approach to Camp and all Camp activities, possess excellent communication skills,  can volunteer effectively as part of a team, be non-judgemental,  have a clear understanding of appropriate boundaries,  be reliable, punctual and dependable and have a sense of fun!
