Milton Keynes Arts Centre invites people living and working around Milton Keynes to join a workshop based art project, Head Case, which asks participants to recollect and share their special memories of places and to invent curious objects that can be carried on head as a way of communicating their memories with others.
Workshop dates are on Thursdays, 1-3pm: 03 May, 10 May, 17 May, 24 May and there will be an exhibition opening on Saturday 02 June 2018.
Lunch is provided from 12:30pm, offering a healthy start before the work begins!
Head Case is a workshop based art project with an aim to embrace local places and spaces in psychogeographic terms. The inspiration comes from the everyday technique of carrying on the head. Carrying on the head is a common practice in many parts of the world since ancient times, sometimes in religious ceremonies or as a skilled feat for dances all with impressive balance and dexterity. It is a method of transport and delivery solicited by social system and cultural heritage.
The workshops will be completed by taking these objects to the sites of memories and performing ‘psycho geographic living sculptures’ combining human body, object of memory and place. Each construction will require a site specific simple movement while head carrying which we will document through photography.
