Could you make a real difference to people experiencing homelessness?

Full time Homeless Shelter Manager and part time Support Workers. Job Share considered.

The Bus Shelter MK is a small, innovative charity which provides short-term accommodation on a converted double decker bus for people experiencing homelessness on the streets of Milton Keynes.  We provide a safe temporary home while we help residents address the issues behind their homelessness and move into sustainable lifestyles and more permanent housing.

Our current Shelter Manager is leaving Milton Keynes for the West Country and has been kind enough to say “I will miss everyone at The Bus Shelter MK and I will be extremely fortunate to find an organisation just a fraction as good to work for.”

Shelter Manager

We are therefore seeking a confident, caring and resourceful person to manage our accommodation, deliver a good outcome for our residents and ensure health and safety is maintained.  You will lead the staff/volunteer team to provide a person-centric service, tailored to specific and often complex needs.  An effective communicator, you will be able to build credibility and trust quickly, maximise the skills and commitment of our staff and volunteers and collaborate effectively with third parties.

Experience of working within homelessness or in a related sector is essential.

This post is offered on a full time (37 hours per week), permanent basis and includes some unsocial hours including weekend work.  The annual salary range is £21,500 to £25,000 based on skills and experience, with an Employer matched pension contribution of up to 5%. The post holder will be required to travel independently to various locations. You will report directly to the Board of Trustees.

Shelter Support Team

Two support workers are required to cover mainly evening and/or weekend duties to ensure the smooth delivery of the person-centric services offered to our residents and ensure the health and safety of the residents and volunteers.

These posts are offered initially as three month contracts paid at a rate of £9.00 per hour for a minimum of 10 hours per week.
