What is Enter and View?
Our Enter and View programme gets to the heart of people’s experience of local health and social care services, assessing them from the patient perspective. Using our statutory right to discharge Enter and View visits, we help providers across a range of health and social care services identify changes that could improve patients’ experiences of those services.
There are two pieces of legislation which place a duty on health and social care providers to allow a representative of Healthwatch to carry out Enter and View;
The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007
The Local Authorities (Public Health Functions and Entry to Premises by Local Healthwatch Representatives) Regulations 2013.
Enter and View allows Healthwatch to go into health and social care premises to hear and see how people experience the service, to collect the views of people using the service at the point of delivery, to collect the views of the carers and relatives of people using the service and to observe the nature and quality of services.
We collate evidence-based feedback, based on what people have told us on the day and report our findings and recommendations to providers, regulators, Local Authority, NHS commissioners and quality assurers, the public, Healthwatch England and any other relevant partners. Healthwatch Milton Keynes operates an annual schedule of Enter and View activities and in addition undertakes responsive Enter and View activities where a need is identified, requests are made by providers/commissioners, or there is compelling insight from patients of the service to undertake a visit.
