We journeyed out and about into the local communities of Milton Keynes to promote and celebrate all types of volunteers!

Wolverton Community Orchard were wonderful hosts, with the Orchard itself housing several fruit trees, pockets of peace and a lovely sensory garden for all ages to enjoy! The volunteers there give their time and work hard to maintain the tranquil garden, whether it’s teaching schools about wildlife, planting patches of wild flowers or building a dragon out of their unused compost, their commitment to this well-kept Orchard is to be commended! We also travelled down to Brooklands Expansion area – ever expanding, it seems! There was an inquisitiveness surrounding what we do here at CA:MK, meeting a few people interested in offering their time to us as volunteers! CA:MK also had the fortunate pleasure to bump into the Health Centre’s practice manager, who seemed keen to liaise with us about local community engagement! Creating links, connecting the community and giving people opportunities is a pleasure to accommodate here at Community Action:MK!

The pop up in Netherfield provided an interesting insight into the residents thoughts and feelings on the People’s Health Trust project, a Local Conversation. Most locals were intrigued, particularly when tea and coffee were on offer! They were delighted with the Local Conversation’s recognition of the challenges they face, but there was also a sense of community among them and a willingness to give their time to the Local Conversation, to come together to share ideas, giving up their time willingly to do so, which is what Volunteers Week is all about! The locals of Big Local Conniburrow accommodated us at the hub for their weekly coffee morning, where we were joined by Amy from Sanctuary Hosting, who was impressed by the activities and various groups set up by BLC and it’s committee, with one of the committee members proudly showing off his own artwork, as well as the colossal amount of ideas and activities he and the committee put forward to bring the community together! To find out more information about what goes on down at the BLC hub, click here, or see for yourself by popping down to their local coffee morning every Friday!
There are so many opportunities to get out there and volunteer, even if it’s just for one hour a week – your time could make a difference to somebody’s life or to your community, as well as gaining invaluable experience and making friends along the way! Volunteers are the unsung heroes of a lot of our communities, so here’s to them! Thank you! #volunteersweek
