Cyber Protect Awareness Workshops

We are helping the Thames Valley Police deliver two workshops dedicated to Cyber Security for voluntary and community groups.

The Thames Valley Police Cyber Security Advisor will be providing two short Cyber Protect awareness sessions in October 2019 for Community Action: MK in order to empower their own local voluntary and community sector groups to speak with confidence within their immediate communities of the current cyber threats that the general public may experience.

The workshops will be held on the following dates and times:
Workshop 1: Tuesday 8th October: 11am – 1pm
Workshop 2: Thursday 24th October 11am – 1pm

Community Grants information event

Do you run a project that supports local people to get on in life? If you can help people to build confidence and overcome barriers that can block them from getting into training or paid work, the Community Grants programme could help you.

The Community Grants programme offers Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations grant funding from £10,000 to £20,000 to deliver projects that make a difference within local communities in the South East Midlands.

EEH Transport Strategy Meeting

England’s Economic Heartland (EEH) is inviting comments on their Outline Transport Strategy. To facilitate engagement and increase awareness of their role, EEH officers are holding a local engagement event on 25 September where you can hear about the Strategy and their work.  

The EEH is the Sub-national Transport Body for a region stretching from Swindon to Cambridgeshire and from Northamptonshire to Hertfordshire. Milton Keynes is at the centre of this region. The EEH are already playing a role in prioritising strategic infrastructure investment in the region informed by the studies and the evidence base it is developing, and in the future will play a key role in facilitating investment and improvement in local transport services.

The stakeholder engagement event will take place on 25 September 2019 from 6:30-8pm, in the Council Chamber, Civic Offices, Milton Keynes. To assist with planning for the event, we ask anyone wishing to attend to please email Transport.Policy@milton-keynes.gov.uk and include details of any groups they represent. This is so we can manage attendance and provide more details to confirmed attendees nearer the time of the event.

Draft Milton Keynes East Development Framework Supplementary Planning Document

Milton Keynes East (MKE) has been allocated for a residential-led strategic urban extension in Plan:MK. The allocation within Plan:MK is for around 5,000 homes and 105 hectares of employment land along with a range of social, transport and green infrastructure provision.

Milton Keynes Council is consulting on a Draft Milton Keynes East Development Framework Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). The consultation runs from 7 August 2019 closing on 16 October 2019 at 5pm. Read more

Tai Chi Classes for the visually impaired

Tai Chi is a gentle way to exercise And keep fit.  It is a Chinese form of ‘meditation’ within movement, a series of movements performed in a slow, harmonized and relaxed way. It aims to improve balance, reduce stress and tension, increase energy  levels, build up your immune system, loosen stiff joints, relieve headaches, neck and shoulder pain; and improve posture to alleviate back pain. It is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Bucks Vision Tai Chi  classes for the visually impaired are held twice a month on Friday afternoons between 1.30 and 2.45 pm in John Lewis Community room within the Store in Centre MK.  Cost is £4 per session. Transport can be arranged at a small extra cost.

Victims First Emotional Support Volunteer provides free emotional and practical support to all victims of crime, witnesses of crime and family members of victims. Giffgaff launches community projects initiative to boost volunteering

Room for improvement in workplace volunteering, new research finds

Mobile network Giffgaff has launched a new community projects initiative to promote volunteering after it found the concept of British community could be under threat.

According to a new white paper commissioned by Giffgaff, less than a quarter (24%) of the nation believe the notion of community is alive and well in the UK, with 60% placing the blame on Brexit and 72% highlighting a lack of funding by the government. Read more

Sharing and Celebrating Patient and Public Involvement in Healthcare

NHS England and NHS Improvement have launched the ‘Sharing and Celebrating Patient and Public Involvement in Healthcare’ community grants scheme. Grants of up to £2,500 are available to voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations ‘that showcase good practice around patient and citizen involvement in healthcare.’

GSK IMPACT Awards

The GSK IMPACT Awards provide core funding, training and national recognition for charities doing excellent work to improve people’s health and wellbeing. Up to 20 awards will be made ranging from £3,000 to £40,000. To be eligible organisations must be at least three years old, a registered charity, working in a health-related field in the UK, with income between £80,000 and £2.5 million. Winning organisations will have a film made, receive support with press and publicity and be given a set of promotional materials. They will also be offered free training and development valued at a further £9,500.

Applications for grants of up to £35,000 are open until 12pm (noon) on Friday 20 September. Co-op Foundation expect to make about eight grants in total and funding comes from a new £3 million extension to Co-Op’s #iwill Fund. Planting Up permablitz

Join Planting Up in the garden for their next permablitz at Westbury Arts Centre on Saturday 24 August from 10.30am. They’ll be working up an appetite for their “bring & share” lunch from 1 – 2pm. Summer garden care is mostly about leisurely watering, trimming and weeding but they’ll also be seeing what they can pick and eat from the garden too! 🙂

Youth Fest – Truth For Youth

We are celebrating the launch of Truth For Youth, a brand new youth project in MK4. Come and join us at our free festival to see a mix of youth facilities from around MK. We will have DJs playing some soulful House and Garage, guest speakers, singing workshops, dance crew performances, a climbing wall, football skill activities, creative tent, a giant sand pit for little ones and some quality eco food & beverage vendors. This event is 100% plastic free, and the first 70 people will get a free reusable Truth For Youth festival cup!
