Join the debate. Re-thinking Equality in Milton Keynes for post-crisis times. A series of online events in summer 2020.

About this Event

Due to the popularity of the online discussions held in June, we are adding two more sessions to get a wide range of voices heard!

As we emerge from the Covid-19 crisis we have a unique opportunity to plan for a more equal future. Milton Keynes Fawcett and Community Action: MK have been considering ways in which we might do this.

We invite you to join the discussion and debate, taking part in one of a series of online events offered in June and July. Please join us on Tuesday July 7th from 2 to 3pm or Wednesday July 8th from 6 to 7pm to start the debate.

Milton Keynes Council has stated that a fairer, hard-working and more equal Milton Keynes for all is its aim. Stronger policies on equality must become integral to planning and service provision. Women are at the front line of so many essential services as well as being users, and they deserve equal consideration. We are calling for an inclusive approach to Post-Covid recovery planning, with wider public engagement in decision making. This is an opportunity to do things differently and help to bring about significant change, and get involved with the planning to make Milton Keynes a more equal place to live. Let’s start making a difference NOW.

The meeting will cover:

– A brief introduction to the MK Fawcett Group

– “Re-thinking equality”, an outline of the document and its purpose (see the document here)

– Discussion: Developing an inclusive post-crisis approach between Council and the Voluntary Sector

– Next Steps: Suggestions and recommendations for action

– A record of the event will be shared with MK Councillors

Milton Keynes Fawcett Group has produced two papers on gender equality issues.

Re-thinking equality for post-crisis times includes research, data and observations on gender equality, with recommendations on how equality analysis could be integrated more fundamentally into planning and strategy development by Milton Keynes Council.

The second paper is a focus on women’s participation as councillors. Both papers are being shared with Milton Keynes Council as it begins its Post-Covid Recovery planning.

We hope that you will be able to join us.
