At Community Action: MK we run an Employee Volunteering Programme. The programme is designed to support charities and voluntary organisations to identify and develop quality volunteering opportunities for local businesses to sign up to. We provide ‘project management’ to match your staff with their chosen volunteering opportunity.  This means they have a stress free team building activity whilst they have a positive impact on the local community.   • They are looking for enthusiastic people who are computer literate and have an eye for detail to join their diverse team to help upload items onto their website. This activity is due to take place on Wednesday 18th January.

Help a Homeless Shelter

  • They are keen to have volunteers to help clear their outdoor area. The area is small and compact. They like to encourage their residents to use the space for barbeques and other social activities. This activity will take place on Wednesday 8th March.

Local Children’s Centre needs you

  • The centre would like their outside space improved to provide better outside learning for their young people. To achieve this they need turf to be removed and an outside wall painted. If any artists are available they would like small murals painted to make the space look special.  This activity will take place on Thursday 23th March.

Local Charity supporting adults with learning difficulties

Background:

This Charity is looking for one large or several smaller groups that are able to come and improve their garden area into an outdoor classroom and learning garden. They won a regional competition to receive funding to improve the garden area through the People’s Project (National Lottery). The work needs to be completed in good time for the charities Garden Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 10th May 2017 – To celebrate the new garden and to name the garden after one of our long term supporters Mrs Robeson who sadly passed away.The jobs include:
There are some really heavy jobs to be completed. The jobs include:
  • Plenty of muscle will be need to lay a slab base in preparation for a shed, an erect shed to be moved onto the base.
  • A large raised bed needs to be constructed in their poly tunnel.
  • Existing raised beds are in need of restructuring.
  • Planters need to be painted, a water feature is in need of a clean and the greenhouses need to be tidied.
  • They have a large decking activity that needs to be cleaned with hard brooms and then stained with preservative containing sand.

These activities need to take place week beginning 6th, 13th & 20th March. Tuesday and Thursday are the preferred days.

Local Charity needs help

Background:

This Charity grows flowers and makes different flavoured teas which they sell at Farmers Markets to enable their sustainability. They encourage local groups to visit their open space to encourage learning. They also support adults with learning difficulties and autism. 
  • The centre would like their outside space improved to provide a more attractive area that the youth team would be proud to support. The area is in need of: clearing, tidying, path making. A plan has been drawn up with the help of the youth team of how they would like the area to look. They just need the muscle to help make that a reality.  This activity can take place on any Tuesday or Thursday in April from 10am.

Local Pre-School needs refurbishment 

  • They need their toilet areas and kitchen painted. The work can only be carried out in the holidays when the children are not using the facilities. Be prepared as they always find other things to do too. This activity will take place Week beginning 3rd April.

Local Charity needs YOU!

Background:

The Play Services Team at this charity deliver a wide range of play related services which can be broadly broken down into three areas: Direct delivery of play, Support for deliverers of play and Partnership working – you name it, they do it! they support Breakfast Clubs, After School Clubs, Holiday Play Schemes and schools looking to improve their lunchtime provision with activities, resources or staff development.
  • The charity needs help in revamping their hire equipment. The equipment is in desperate need of cleaning, repairing and painting. Children learn through play so it is important that the equipment looks attractive and inviting to them. The activity is not for the faint hearted. This activity can take place on any Tuesday or Thursday in May from 9.30am-4pm.

Waterway Charity is in need of help 

  • We need volunteers to support this charity with a variety of activities. From May onwards they will be working at 3 of their present sites. The activities will include clearing overgrown towpaths, building a dam to enable them to re-water the site later in the year, clearing reeds from an overgrown bed and in the summer painting lock gates. If you are interested and know the date that you are available we will then be able to work with the charity and let you know the exact project you would be working on. They need volunteers on the following dates: February 9th & 23rd, March 9th & 23rd, April 6th & 20th, May 4th & 18th, June 1st & 15th, July 13th & 27th, August 10th & 24th, September 7th & 21st, October 5th & 19th, November 2nd, 16th and 30th, December 14th & 28th.

    There are 20 places available for each of the opportunities.
