What is Plan:MK?
Plan:MK (Draft Plan:MK Consultation document (PDF, 9.2MB)) is the preferred development strategy for Milton Keynes outlining how the Borough will grow over the next few years. It is the Council’s new Local Plan for the homes, jobs and infrastructure that will be needed in the Borough for the period until 2031.
The population is expected to increase to over 300,000 by this period. To support this, 26,500 new homes will be provided over the next 15 years – most already have planning permission with further homes earmarked for development on brownfield sites and sustainable urban extensions to the east and south of MK.
Who does it affect? Why?
Created and written using the ideas, comments and feedback from residents and key groups in MK, and independent evidence assessments, the plan covers how and where future development sites will be.
This forward planning is vital to ensure that the Council get the right balance of housing and industrial development and Milton Keynes’ local economy continues to thrive; but their aim is also to maintain what makes MK special – the large amount of green open space, unique grid road and redway networks and the right infrastructure like schools and health provision.
How can you get involved?
The Council needs your views on the proposals. From Friday 17th March – 9th June 2017 comments are sought from anyone who has an interest in the future of the Borough. Details about how you will be able to have your say on the plans will be published in local media, on the Milton Keynes Council website and on their social media channels.

Community Action: MK hosted a workshop to encourage Milton Keynes residents to have their say. The Workshop took place on:
Tuesday, 9th May 2017
16:00 – 18:00
at – Works for Us, 433 Silbury Boulevard, Norfolk House,
Milton Keynes, MK9 2AH
The aim of this informal workshop was to explore and discuss the key issues for community members and feed in your views to the Plan:MK team. It was a chance to say what is important to you and your community and to encourage you to get involved in planning for the future of Milton Keynes.
John Cheston from Milton Keynes Council delivered a presentation and Q&A session on the subject. John Cheston is from the Planning, Culture and Infrastructure Team.
There were eight attendees at the Workshop. They participated in a lively conversation and the key points of discussion were:
- The lack of affordable housing now and in the future.
- The fact the older generation are living older and will need appropriate housing.
- The Oxford to Cambridge Corridor.
- Health provision (or lack of).
The comments made on the day will be sent directly to the Council.
John Cheston answered numerous questions and, along with the Community Action: MK team, encouraged attendees to formally write their responses to the Council through the proper channels. These are:
