MK is one of the fastest growing places in the UK. By 2026, our population will have grown by 20%.
Community Action: MK is funded by the MK Tariff, a roof tax given by developers towards the cost of ‘infrastructure’ that new areas need (e.g. schools, roads, community centres etc.) This money funds a Community Involvement Programme which aims to get residents of these new areas more active in their communities.
We work across four areas:
- Broughton Gate and Brooklands (collectively known as the Eastern Expansion Area)
- Strategic Land Allocation (land to the south-east of the city)
- Tattenhoe Park and Kingsmead South
- Western Expansion Area (which runs along the V4 from Stony Stratford to Crownhill)
Community Involvement Programme
Our Community Involvement Programme supports residents to take a more active role in their new communities.
We provide an Arrivals programme which welcomes new residents, and supports them with any concerns or interests they may have. Our Community Mobiliser, Josan Race, also works with residents to get them to take a more active role in their community – whether it be attending activities, volunteering, having a say in local issues or starting up their own groups and activities.
We also provide support and information to the voluntary and community sector to help them understand the issues and opportunities growth of MK may bring.
Funding to support community activities
Together with the MK Community Foundation we offer a grant called the New Communities Fund. This fund supports activities and services which benefit residents living in MK’s expansion areas. Click here for more information on how you can apply.
