Survey: how to represent heat loss in a map?

Can you complete this short survey?

Our friends at The Open University who work with us on the MK:Smart and CAPE, Community Action Platform for Energy projects are investigating how to represent heat loss in a map. Please complete this short survey to help them understand which colours schemes better represent the level of heat loss of buildings in an on-line map. The heat loss of a house is related with the energy you would need to use to keep it warm and comfortable. Findings from the survey will be used for research purposes.

Data collected by the survey will be anonymous and it takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. You can exit the survey at any point.

This survey has been approved by the Open University’s Human Research Ethics Committee. If you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to contact Jose Cavero (jose.cavero@open.ac.uk).

Funding for Citizen Innovators

Would you like to get funded to run a project in Milton Keynes?

Our MK, a crowdsourcing website for Milton Keynes, is launching a new funding competition for local citizens. We would like to fund innovative ideas that could improve transport, energy, water, health and environment in our city, and are offering our help and support in developing these into projects.

Our MK is powered by MK:Smart, a city-wide project working to bring MK to the forefront of innovation, technology and data. Our MK now has funding available for your projects that could help MK achieve this.

Our MK are offering awards of up to £5,000 for groups of citizens to develop technology-centred ideas which could have an impact on issues of sustainability around Milton Keynes. In addition to the funding, we can also provide help with technical support and advice on running community projects. Project ideas need to involve some form of digital technology and must be based around the key issues of Energy, Water, Transport, Health and the Environment.

The deadline for our final round of applications is the 30th October 2016.

Fuel Poverty:’Keeping Kids Cosy’

A new project helping to fight fuel poverty in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire

The National Energy Foundation has launched a new project, designed to help families with young children who are struggling with fuel poverty.

The scheme will run until the 31 August 2017 and will include advice and guidance on reducing energy bills, and heating a household affordably and efficiently. It will also provide advice and help with switching energy tariff or supplier, and it will offer small grants for energy efficiency measures such as draught-proofing, thermostatic radiator valves or LED lightbulbs (and more).

Be Active – Help Out – Get Rewarded!

New project is rewarding volunteers for getting themselves and their communities more active in Milton Keynes.

Physical Activity image.jpg

A project, being run as a pilot by Community Action: MK in association with the Milton Keynes Physical Activity Alliance, is recruiting the people of Milton Keynes to become volunteers in Physical Activity related roles. Every volunteer that gets involved in the selected roles will be rewarded with monthly credits that will offer them a free session for leisure activities across the city, including at 1Life, MK Leisure, and Fitness First facilities. Interested? Here is just a few examples of the types of things you could get involved with:

  • Health Walks Leaders with Milton Keynes Council

  • Cycle Ride Leader with British Cycling

  • Swimming Lessons Assistant with Stantonbury Arts & Leisure

Specialist training will be provided in some of theses roles, and you could make a real difference to the health of the city, so take a look at these and many more available at:  www.communityactionmk.org/volunteering/physicalactivity.

This work has been supported by funding from MK Community Foundation and Public Health, Milton Keynes Council, and donations from 1Life, MK Leisure and Fitness First.
