Workshop: Engaging with hard-to-reach communities

Workshop for Residents Association Network:

Community Action: MK have teamed up with Your MK team at Milton Keynes Council to deliver a workshop for local residents associations about ways of engaging with hard to reach communities.

This interactive session will help you to:

  • build on what you know already
  • identify the benefits you want to gain from engaging hard-to-reach groups
  • explore definitions of hard-to-reach
  • discover what works best and what’s possible in terms of engagement
  • identify what actions you will take to engage groups

The workshop will take place on Thursday 29th September between 7-8.30pm – at the Civic Offices.

FREE Workshop: What is a Raspberry Pi & how to use it?

Heard about a Raspberry Pi and wondered what it is and how to use it?

Are your kids learning about coding at school and you are being left behind?

Come along to this practical workshop on 17th August for the opportunity to learn about how to put together a Raspberry Pi computer through an interactive exercise.

  • Find out about how this small and inexpensive device could revolutionise your life and knowledge of computers.
  • Meet other people who are interested in technology and ways of making it available to ordinary citizens, while contributing to increasing levels of computing literacy.
  • Contribute to MK:Smart, a large city-wide project that is aiming to enable citizens in Milton Keynes to influence the city’s developments and make it a smarter and a more sustainable place to live.

Anyone interested is welcome to come along: no prior knowledge of computers and technology is required. The workshop will be run in a relaxed and practical way.

The event will be held at UCMK campus at 502 Avebury Boulevard, MK9 3HS on Wednesday 17th August: 3-5pm. Refreshments will be provided.

New Communities Project

Community Action: MK runs a Community Development project across MK’s Expansion Areas. These areas include:

  • Broughton Gate and Brooklands (known as the Eastern Expansion Area)
  • Fairfields and Whitehouse (known as the Western Expansion Area)
  • Kingsmead South and Tattenhoe Park
  • Strategic Land Allocation

The aim of this project is to build strong and sustainable communities in MK’s newest areas, and encourage people to take a more active role in their community, whether it be through attending or running activities, volunteering or having a say in local decisions.

We have published a short summary to give you a flavour of some of the exciting activities and achievements for these areas which is available to download.
