Funding for Citizen Innovators

Would you like to get funded to run a project in Milton Keynes?

Our MK, a crowdsourcing website for Milton Keynes, is launching a new funding competition for local citizens. We would like to fund innovative ideas that could improve transport, energy, water, health and environment in our city, and are offering our help and support in developing these into projects.

Our MK is powered by MK:Smart, a city-wide project working to bring MK to the forefront of innovation, technology and data. Our MK now has funding available for your projects that could help MK achieve this.

Our MK are offering awards of up to £5,000 for groups of citizens to develop technology-centred ideas which could have an impact on issues of sustainability around Milton Keynes. In addition to the funding, we can also provide help with technical support and advice on running community projects. Project ideas need to involve some form of digital technology and must be based around the key issues of Energy, Water, Transport, Health and the Environment.

The deadline for our final round of applications is the 30th October 2016.

If you aren’t sure about your project idea, take a look at the projects we have already funded since the launch of Our MK here and come to our Information Event at Gallery 200 at MK College on Thursday 13th October. To find out more about this free event and to book your place, click here.

Fuel Poverty:’Keeping Kids Cosy’

A new project helping to fight fuel poverty in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire

The National Energy Foundation has launched a new project, designed to help families with young children who are struggling with fuel poverty.

The scheme will run until the 31 August 2017 and will include advice and guidance on reducing energy bills, and heating a household affordably and efficiently. It will also provide advice and help with switching energy tariff or supplier, and it will offer small grants for energy efficiency measures such as draught-proofing, thermostatic radiator valves or LED lightbulbs (and more).

The supermarket has once again teamed up with Groundwork to launch its Bags of Help initiative, which sees grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to environmental and greenspace projects.

Applications for the next round of the funding opened on 18 April – and with the deadline of 3 June – Tesco is urging groups in Milton Keynes to apply now and avoid missing out.

All interested charities and community groups have to do is apply online at or call the helpline on 0121 237 5780.
