Founding Community Through Connection with the Suleman Foundation
We were lucky to meet so many groups at the Art in the Park festival this year. A highlight was connecting with the team from the Suleman Foundation, a newly registered Milton Keynes charity supporting individuals and families through practical help and community support.
It was great to hear about the Foundation’s partnerships with local organisations, including MK Food Bank, MK Storehouse and others across the city. We were particularly interested to learn about their work with MK Food Bank to help make food support more inclusive and accessible for people from different backgrounds, including refugee and asylum-seeking communities.
Through this partnership, people using the food bank can swap certain items in their food parcel for alternatives that better meet their cultural, dietary or religious needs, including halal and gluten-free products. It is a simple idea, but one that can make a real difference in helping people feel welcomed, respected and supported.

Alongside this, the Foundation helps provide essential items such as food, clothing, toiletries, school supplies and other everyday necessities to people facing difficult circumstances.
As we mark Refugee Week, we wanted to highlight the important role that organisations like the Suleman Foundation play in creating welcoming and supportive communities. Through kindness, partnership and practical action, they help ensure that people facing challenges can access support that meets their needs and helps them feel part of the community.
The Foundation is currently developing its new website, but you can visit it now to find out more about their work and sign up to their mailing list for future updates.
