DAFS MK
This is Wendy’s story into volunteering with DAFS MK …
Whilst my son was struggling with his addictions to drugs and later alcohol, my family found a group with people who had lived experience with so much knowledge & empathy for the whole family including my son. This group had to close due to funding but we were very lucky that two ladies decided to set up DAFS – Drug & Alcohol Family Support, in its place.
I continued to attend on a weekly basis and as the group grew I helped where/whenever I could – this led me to become a group facilitator and a Trustee for DAFS.
DAFS have given my family and lots of others much support over the last 7 years. Facing our ups and downs but seeing how many people attend and interact with this group – realising that it’s ok to be honest about your situation and not be judged & also making strong friendships.
Volunteering has also made me stronger and more able to deal with my son , who is now in recovery and living a much better life. Without this group, all the beneficiaries and the other volunteers, this I don’t believe would have been possible. At every meeting you are not certain who you will meet or what situation you will be told about, but I know that this group will listen, advise and lift your spirits with their kindness, and even laughter.
Thank You!
Our volunteers are the backbone and life blood of DAFS. Their unwavering dedication and generosity of time and spirit is truly uplifting & allows us to connect with the families we support.
We want to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who gives your time, energy, and compassion to the mission of DAFS. Your selfless dedication does not go unnoticed. Whether you’re offering support behind the scenes or dealing directly with our families, we are incredibly grateful for your commitment. Thank you for being the heart of DAFS — your contributions inspire us all – with our sincere appreciation.
