What is Transition Town MK?
Transition Town Milton Keynes is a group that has been active in the City for over a decade. It is made up of vibrant grassroots community initiatives that seek to build their community resilience in the face of such challenges as climate change and the economic crisis. It is part of the wider, international Transition Network.

Who is behind Transition Town MK?
Transition Town is entirely led by volunteers! It has a core group of 6 volunteers who plan, organise and promote events, working in collaboration with many other local initiatives. Transition Town is also part of some of the key local alliances and networks, including Citizens: MK and MK Climate Action Network. They meet monthly, usually online, and organise monthly social evenings too, and put on regular events, which are open to the local community from across Milton Keynes.
What support does the group need?
Transition is really keen to strengthen their core team and are calling for local volunteers to join the team! Support with planning, holding and communicating about the group’s events is very much needed as is support across the group’s projects. The projects run or supported by Transition Town include the community gardening (Planting Up MK!), MK Repair Cafe and Doughnut Economics projects.
Can you get involved?
Transition Town is really keen to hear from potential volunteers from a range of backgrounds! Local residents in Milton Keynes are encouraged to get involved.
The groups will welcome time, enthusiasm and a range of skills – whether you want to lend a hand with organising events, do some community-based gardening, help the group manage and maintain their comms (eg the website, newsletter or social media) or develop their strategy to help maximise Transition’s reach and impact! Everyone is welcome to participate in Transition’s events and activities, and by sharing skills it will generally be possible to find a role for anyone who wants to join our core group.
In return, you will get the opportunity to take part in on-the-ground practical grassroots activities related to all things climate change, sustainability and resilience. Becoming involved with Transition will lead to social connections with a wide range and diverse friendly group of people who are engaged in practical activities that benefit people and the planet.
