Do you have a passion for theatre, but find that it’s just too expensive? Affordability is a huge barrier for a lot of us, especially when it comes to the arts. So when it comes to the luxury of a show, gig or art installation, we tend to stick with the tried and tested safe options. But we lose that risk taking, adventurous, try-something-new aspect of ourselves.
Well, What If Theatre (WIT) is here to try and rectify that!
Our mission is to provide free theatre productions to our local community and beyond.
By removing the cost of a show ticket, we hope to encourage people to take a chance and take in a show.
There are so many people who have never had the chance to experience theatre and from this, is the notion that it “isn’t for them”.
Back in ye olden days, shows were put on in public spaces, accessible for all, no matter your social status, culture or finances and bringing that back is the ultimate goal.
We are based in Glebe Farm and are working with several factions in the community, all of whom find this prospect as exciting as we do.
What If Theatre is currently in it’s infancy but everyday day we gain a little more momentum and we are currently looking to round out our committee. We are looking for a secretary and a treasurer so we can start the process of applying for funding and sponsorship to make this dream a reality. We are also looking for people who are social media and technology savvy to ensure we reach everyone we can.
We are chomping at the bit to start planning productions and bringing theatre to everyone to increase their cultural lives and not decrease their bank accounts!
If you are interested in being a part of this ambitious and exciting project or just want to know a bit more about us and our mission, you can contact us at whatiftheatre@aol.com or follow us on Facebook here.
