Today’s blog is from MK Money Lifeline. Read on to find out more about who they are and how you can get involved in volunteering …
MK Money Lifeline is an independent charity offering free confidential and impartial debt advice for anyone in need in Milton Keynes since 2012. 30% of the children in Milton Keynes live in poverty, high energy bills are still with us and prices continue to rise: for many people in Milton Keynes there is a continual crisis. Debt has a massive impact on individuals, provoking feelings of fear, shame, guilt and anger, and can feel like being in a prison with no way out. We know it can make every part of life hard and stressful and make a person feel that they cannot face another day.

What do we do?
MK Money Lifeline offers people an ability to navigate their way out of debt and our advisers can help them to get free and stay out of debt. We have an holistic approach to help people deal with their debts and set a budget for living, providing the budgeting tools and expertise to enable people to become debt free. Our face to face advice is provided free of charge and with understanding and confidentiality by our team of trained advisers, many of whom are volunteers. We are part of Community Money Advice, a network of 185 centres in the UK which are similar to MK Money Lifeline.
In 2022/23 we assisted over 200 people either as clients, or by offering guidance at our three drop-in sessions in Bletchley. Demand for our service is significant and we are always very busy. Nevertheless, we usually find capacity to deal with urgent new
cases (such as people facing eviction or re-possession), sometimes this may be through guidance offered via one of our drop-in.
‘’Thank you MK Money
Lifeline, you guys definitely
helped me!’’
Where we are
We are based at Acorn House in Central Milton Keynes and while we see clients by appointment, we also operate three weekly drop-in sessions in Bletchley and the Lakes estate where local residents can access advice and guidance. We are very grateful to St. Mary’s and St. Frideswide’s churches, West Bletchley Parish Council and Bletchley & Fenny Stratford Town Council for their help in funding these.
Volunteering Opportunities with MK Money Lifeline
We are on the lookout for volunteer debt advisers and Trustees to help with our ever increasing client list. In particular we are looking to recruit volunteers to help with or organise our social media and also to manage fundraising events for us.
